KFC, frog race and tacky kitchen toys
I am not even kidding, I sweat while I bathe! It has been so hot, it’s not even funny. From the end of Holi this year, summer made the best comeback it has in years. And since school started right after Holi, we wear thick uniforms and the ceiling fans at my school work slower than a broken fan that too with the noise. It makes me live every second in panic whether the fan is going to fall or not.
Staying outside of chennai since the age of 1, I never really liked the humid and damp weather of Chennai even though I stayed the first year of my life there. It was always too hot for me but also the fact that my Tamil was hilarious, I was always a black sheep from all my cousins and friends who lived there. But one thing that kept me from hating Chennai were the people there, especially my maternal grandparents and my friends who lived in that area.
My grandpa was everything I
could ever dream of; When I was young, I was a very fussy eater (Still am) but
every week, he would take me to the nearby KFC and get me fried chicken. It was
something I really looked forward to, and it also made me want to eat whatever
my grandma made for me at home. He also used to fight with the employees if
they gave a wing piece! There was once a time where my grandmother promised to
make pea rice for lunch and I was really looking forward to that, but while chopping
vegetables, she cut her own hand and had to be taken to the hospital. She only
needed a few stitches and ended up fine but I was disappointed I didn’t get my
pea rice. ☹
The friends
I made there were my very first ones I can remember, we used to play red light
green light, frog jump race (We were once racing against one another and I fell
and got hurt on my nose) and mainly, kitchen? It is basically a kit of toy plastic
kitchen utensils with a stove, a few pots and pans, teacups, three plates, forks,
spoons and a fridge but the most remarkable thing about it was the tacky pink
color. And being the dumb kid, I was, I used to use Neem leaves, water, sand, Aloe
Vera leaves, flowers etc. as food and cook them on plastic pots.
There is so
much I did in my childhood but this was a small fragment of it.
I hope you
have a great day/night ahead.
